Through the years, they have gone through many periods of musical interest, but their main focus is on having fun, creative expression, and making good music. Dylan Sherman has been keeping time on Michigan bandstands for the past seven years. Bassist and composer, he has performed at venues including Cliff Bells, Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, the Blue LLama, GR Noir, Aretha's Jazz Club, and Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, playing genres from bebop, pop-funk fusion, r&b, and more. A student of Rodney Whitaker, Dylan is one of the music program’s graduate assistants and is pursuing a Masters degree from Michigan State University. During his undergraduate years, he had the opportunity to learn from great musicians/mentors, such as Walter Blanding, Michael Dease, Randy Napoleon, Jeff Pedraz, Jordan VanHemert, Lisa Sung, etc. Dylan Sherman's immediate future goals are to create musical connections and play all over the Midwest area, to play with as many great musicians as he can to grow his understanding of music, and to take on musical students so he can share with others what he has been taught. His grandeur goals involve traveling the world to experience more musical cultures, performing/recording his original compositions, and, later on, teaching at a college level. Dylan Sherman & The Low End have their eye on the groove and the big beat! Most of the band's repertoire will include original compositions from Dylan, originals from other members in the group, and classic tunes that will provide the vehicle for groove and improvisation that the band is looking for. The Low End seeks to swing and has a commitment to have everyone tapping their feet and clapping their hands. You can find Dylan’s bass playing and some original compositions on Quintessential’s 2024 album, “Here We Are”. The tracks Jerry’s Blues, Welp Try Again, and The Subtext are a few examples of his wide compositional catalogue.
